My QR code won’t scan

Nine times out of ten it’s the screen you’re scanning from — not the code. Here’s the quick fix, plus the manual entry that always works.

Scan from a different screen

A phone can’t scan a QR code shown on its own screen. Open your iTechSim email on a laptop or a second phone (or print it), then scan with the phone you’re installing on.

Give it light and focus

Turn the brightness up on the screen showing the code, hold steady about 20 cm away with the whole code in frame, and give the camera lens a wipe.

Still stuck? Enter it by hand

Your email also lists the eSIM details, so you never actually need the camera.


iPhone: Settings → Mobile → Add eSIM → Use Details Manually, then type the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code.


Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM → Enter manually.

Do it on Wi-Fi, before you fly

You need internet to install (not to use it afterwards). Install at home — the eSIM then waits quietly until you switch on Data Roaming for the iTechSim line at your destination.
